It will be hosted by Qatar from November 20 to December 18, 2022. This is the seventh and last version of the World Cup, in which 32 teams participate (it started since the 1998 World Cup). In 2018, FIFA studied the possibility of expanding the tournament to include 48 teams, scheduled for 2026, and applying it in the 2022 edition, however, on May 22, 2019, this idea was abandoned due to many difficulties, the most important of which was that the organizing committee initially planned to accommodate 32 players, not 48 teams, as 48 teams will participate in the 2026 edition, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Due to the sweltering summer heat in Qatar, this time the World Cup will be held from late November to mid-December, making it the first tournament not to be held in May, June or July. The tournament will be played in a lesser period of time around 29 days. The first match of the tournament will be held between Qatar and Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor. The final match is scheduled to take place on December 18, 2022, which is Qatar National Day. The World Cup holder is France. Team headquarters

The 2022 World Cup includes 32 teams from six continents. These teams will compete for 28 days in the host country to win the championship title. The first stage of competitions begins with the group stage. The group stage consists of 8 groups, where each of the four teams will play in one group, the leaders and runners-up of each group qualify for the next round. The participating teams were divided into four levels based on the FIFA World Classification of the teams and according to sports and geographical criteria. Since 1998 some have been approvedThe rules for dividing the teams, including those that stipulate that no more than two European teams fall into one group, and also stipulate that no more than one team from every other continental federation fall into one group, to spare the teams of one continent from early confrontation in one group. Because of the unequal teams in the four bowls.

Break-even criteria

Each team plays 3 matches in the group stage against other teams in the same group. The last round of the group will be played at one time to maintain fairness between the four teams. The two teams with the most points qualify for the next round. Since 1994, points have been used to arrange teams within the group, so three points are awarded for winning, one for a draw and nothing for losing, after previously the winner got only two points. In the event of equal points, the following FIFA rules apply:

The order of the participating teams in the group stage is as follows:

Most goals scored teams.

In the event of a tie between two or more teams, the order will be as follows:

The goal difference resulting from the group matches between the concerned teams.

The highest number of goals scored in all group matches between the respective teams.

Resorting to fair play rules that are determined on the basis of colored cards. The fair play points are calculated as follows: (yellow card –1, indirect red card (two cautions) –3, direct red card –4, yellow card then direct expulsion –5).

The knockout stage comprises the sixteen teams that qualified from the group stage of the tournament. There are four turns of this stage,

With each round, half of the teams that entered that stage are eliminated. The consecutive rounds are the round of sixteen, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, and the final match. There was also a play-off to determine the third and fourth place finishers. No draw in each matchthe knockout stage after 90 minutes are played, followed by thirty minutes of extra time; If the score remained tied, a penalty shootout was decided to determine the team qualified for the next round.

Lists of participating teams

Al Rihla

Al Rihla is the official ball of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The ball was designed by Adidas Sports in Germany, which is the official partner of FIFA and the official supplier of World Cup balls since the 1970 tournament. The first Adidas balls were used in the 1970 World Cup, which is Adidas Telestar Ball Since then, the sports company Adidas has been designing balls for the World Cup.

This is the 14th consecutive ball adidas has produced for the World Cup. This name was chosen for the ball because it was inspired by the culture, architecture and boats of Qatar, in addition to its national flag. The ball is the fastest in World Cup history, moving through the air faster than any of the previous World Cup balls, and the first ball to be made with water-based inks and adhesives. Lionel Messi posted on his Instagram diary a video clip showing his new body tattoo, which is a flight ball, and the word "VAMOS" which means "let's go" and the number 2022 written above it.
